Hi, I am Dan, founder of Hometainer and a licensed builder specialising in modular construction.
I started Hometainer because I saw the potential to create something very different from what most people imagine when they think of a shipping container. With the right design, multiple containers can become spacious, beautifully finished homes, while offering a smarter and more efficient way to build.
Today, we design and build award-winning, council-approved multi container homes across Queensland and New South Wales, with our homes also featured on national television. From initial design and engineering through to approvals, construction, delivery and installation, our team manages the entire process.
Every Hometainer is designed around the people who will live in it. We focus on thoughtful layouts, quality finishes and workmanship, creating homes that are distinctive, comfortable and built for Australian living.

Yes. Hometainer homes are designed as permanent residential buildings and go through the required council and building approval process, just like a conventional home. We coordinate the design, engineering and approvals as part of our turnkey service.
Not when they are properly designed and insulated. Every Hometainer features comprehensive insulation and double-glazed windows to help maintain a comfortable indoor temperature throughout the year.
Shipping containers are built from rust-resistant Corten steel and engineered to withstand some of the world’s harshest conditions, making them an exceptionally strong and resilient foundation for a home.
